Jamie Gittens continued his impressive Champions League form as he helped fire Borussia Dortmund to victory at Dinamo Zagreb.
The 20-year-old Englishman picked out the top corner with a sweet strike from the edge of the area just before half-time as the German side moved back into the eight automatic qualification places for the round of 16.
The former Chelsea and Manchester City winger has now scored four goals in five Champions League appearances this season.
Full-back Ramy Bensebaini scored Dortmund’s second with a header 10 minutes after the break, before Serhou Guirassy added a third late on.
They condemned Zagreb to their second European defeat against German opponents this season, after they were thrashed 9-2 by Bayern Munich on the opening matchday.
Dortmund dominated from the start in Croatia, with striker Donyell Malen missing two good chances to put Nuri Sahin’s side in front before Gittens’ opener.
The Dutchman picked his way through the Zagreb defence after 28 minutes, only to lift his effort from eight yards over the bar.
Malen then saw his point-black header brilliantly saved by veteran keeper Danijel Zagorac, only to be beaten by Gittens shortly after.
Gittens cut in from the left wing and struck home with his right foot for his fourth goal in five Champions League group stage games.
Dortmund doubled their lead when Bensebaini met Pascal Gross’ corner at the near post and flicked past Zagorac.
Victory was wrapped up in the 90th minute when Guirassy raced onto a looping through ball and slotted past the onrushing Zagorac.
Guirassy has now been involved in at least one goal in his last five Champions League appearances, scoring five and assisting a further two.
It means Zagreb have now lost their last eight games against Bundesliga sides while conceding 28 goals.
The Croatian side have recovered well in the Champions League since shipping nine to Bayern – winning two and drawing one of their following three matches – but they were comprehensively outplayed by Dortmund.
