The FDSEA and the Young Farmers of Tarn-et-Garonne accomplished a record demonstration during their “dumpster festival” Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in the evening in Montauban. Coming from the four corners of the department, the demonstrators vented their anger in front of strategic locations in the prefectural city. The next morning, it was time for big cleaning.

After the “dumpster festival”, organized by the FDSEA and the Young Farmers on Tuesday November 26, 2024 in the evening to show the suffering of farmers in Tarn-et-Garonne, it is no longer a question of awarding any palme d'or ( or slurry) among the approximately 450 to 600 demonstrators and the 150 to 236 tractors (counted between the prefecture and the organizers) who participated in this manifestation of anger from the peasant world.
It is not, either, the time for the big parade of stars on the red carpet, but rather that of the dump trucks on the bruised asphalt of the Place du Maréchal-Foch and the Allée de l'Empereur de Montauban, where the headquarters of state services is located. Because after the huge spills observed in front of the Hôtel des Intendants, where the prefect is staying, it is now time for a big clean-up.

In the city center of Montauban, many hands have been busy since 9 a.m. loading trailers with tires on Wednesday, November 27. In their fluorescent yellow overalls, the members of the cleaning service of the Grand Montauban urban community (GMCA) therefore have a lot of work on this cool morning at the end of November.

Seeing their crestfallen faces when picking up the tires of tractors left abandoned on the public highway, we understand that their work is very far from finished. And it is not the fog, relatively thick on this Wednesday, November 27 in the morning, which gives them comfort.

The reversing sirens of the deployed mechanical excavator follow the sometimes metallic sound of waste and rubbish being removed. A spectacle witnessed helplessly by many regulars in the city center cafes. And they are far from the only ones.

In the Marcel-Unal city, where the headquarters of the FDSEA and the Chamber of Agriculture are located, we must also ensure that the rubbish left there is removed. It is also here that two mobile automatic radars were placed, unsealed from the east of the department before being brought back to Montauban.
Streets still blocked
Rue Sainte-Claire, which runs alongside the premises of the Departmental Directorate of Territories of Tarn-et-Garonne (DDT 82), is not close to being released to traffic. Because there again, the farmers did not go there with the back of the trailer. They even went so far as to send tires inside the enclosure.
All the rubbish collected will be sent to the Grand Montauban services depot, before being sorted. Waste treatment which will have a cost, borne by the community. This is perhaps one of the points of vigilance to take into account for agricultural organizations: the distrust which could spread among a segment of the population in the face of their movement of anger.
