There wasn’t much to laugh about for FC Red Bull Salzburg on match day five of the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. Bayer Leverkusen sent the Mozartstadters away 5-0 (to the match report >>>).

“Sky” expert and football legend Andreas Herzog was also annoyed by Salzburg’s appalling performance, especially Dorgele’s Nene, who replaced Karim Konate, who was substituted with an injury (Lijnders >>> fears this diagnosis), was upset with him.

The 103-time national player began his sharp criticism like this: “Before the game – now you can say it – we had a feigned confidence. As an Austrian you have the hope that the Austrian team will sell well, but the first half was a complete disaster.”

No intensity or mentality

The current squad can no longer be compared with the Salzburg teams of recent years, who often achieve good results both nationally and internationally.

What is Salzburg currently lacking in comparison to the last teams? “Intensity? Nothing at all! Mentality? Nothing at all,” Herzog continues to make clear.

He also didn’t leave Nene well: “A player is swapped after ten minutes who doesn’t even have his socks on. He’s making Salzburg look ridiculous all over Europe, that’s crazy! (…) That’s embarrassing , I’m sorry!”

Marc Janko, who played over 100 competitive games for the Bulls, described their performance as “subterranean”.

Both in the Champions League and in the league: things are looking bleak for Salzburg at the moment. 30th place in the league phase, nationally (although with two games less than the rest) they are only sixth, 14 (!) points behind league leaders Sturm.

Salzburg scores against Leverkusen: bet, five!
