RB too harmless in the first half

RB started boldly at San Siro, but that quickly turned out to be a flash in the pan. Inter gained more and more control of the game and restricted the guests. Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi was warmed up after just ten minutes. Federico Dimarco forced the Hungarian to react well (8th). In front of UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, a free kick from the left led to the deficit: In the middle, RB defender Castello Lukeba got the ball on his heel – an own goal to make it 0-1 (27th). Christoph Baumgartner saved the score from 0-2 (31st) with a save in front of the line after a shot from Benjamin Pavard. Inter now withdrew in phases and left Leipzig more space. But RB, who preferred André Silva to Benjamin Sesko in attack, remained harmless.

Two chances to equalize

The second half began after 32 seconds with a chance for the Dutchman Denzel Dumfries, his shot flew wide to the right. Ex-Leverkusen player Hakan Calhanoglu tested Gulacsi with a touchdown (51′). After that, the hosts switched more and more into administration mode. RB therefore acted on an equal footing. At least twice the equalizer was in the air: a 20-meter shot from Kevin Kampl flew just past the corner (69th), and a minute later ex-Gladbacher Yann Sommer shone with a finish from Antonio Nusa. In stoppage time, Inter made it supposedly 2-0, but Marcus Thuram had previously won the ball too rustically against Lukeba.

That’s what RB coach Marco Rose said

“It was clear to us in the first half that we were struggling with our self-image. In the second half after the moment of shock, we got the game well under control. I saw a team today that basically defended itself. At the moment we have We all perceive that. I look at our situation in a very differentiated way. We still have three games and we need nine points the new format not yet say.”
