Man fires from car at another car in quiet neighborhood: student witnessed shooting, suspect on the run (Berchem)

Around 8:30 am, the Antwerp police received a report of a shooting. A driver had shot at another car from his car. Both cars then drove away.

Police arrived on scene and were able to find one of the cars and the driver nearby. “The man received medical care, but did not sustain serious injuries,” said police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns. “The circumstances and context in which the facts occurred are being investigated.”

The police have set up a perimeter at the scene of the incident for safety and for trace investigation.

The car from which the shooting took place is still being located. “The situation is currently under control,” the police assure.

Student saw everything happen

“One of our students did not arrive at our school in a normal condition,” says an educator. “He looked very shocked. He told me there had been shots fired in the street. He had seen two people shooting in the street.”
