The National Rally candidate did not wait for the final results to declare himself the winner. Christophe Gonzalez appeared moved by his victory in Rognac, his hometown, during the second round of these early elections this Sunday, November 24, 2024. This election was organized following the resignation of around ten municipal councilors against the backdrop of an affair mismanagement of the city's accounts on the part of the former mayor, and the RN had made it an assumed objective, going as far as a video of support from the president of the parts Jordan Bardella.
“For my colleagues, this will be the landscape of their municipal elections in 2026”
The outgoing mayor Sylvie Miceli-Houdais (UDI), qualified in the second round, expressed her disappointment at the announcement of the results. For the former councilor “Rognac is the reflection of the national scores. For all of my colleagues this will be the landscape of their municipal elections in 2026. It is not necessarily that they are stronger, it is that we, the parties in the middle, are more weak, and therefore necessarily the extremes become stronger” analyzes the one who is suspected of poor management of city accounts.
The victory of the RN list was made official around 8:20 p.m., the runner-up of the election Willy Nicollet (various right), former municipal councilor who resigned, confirmed his defeat in this quadrangular. Marine Le Pen's party had not presented a candidate in Rognac since 2001, but the town's residents voted largely for the RN in the last legislative elections. This is the third town hall won by the Lepéniste party with Marignane in 1995 and Vitrolles in 1997. A victory which sounds like a promise for March 2026 and the next municipal elections : the far-right party is now eyeing Marseille and other large cities in the department.
Final results of these municipal elections in this town of 12,500 inhabitants: RN Christophe Gonzalez wins with 38.24% of the votesahead of Willy Nicollet with 34.65% of the votes, then comes Sylvie Miceli-Houdais the outgoing mayor who accumulates 13.84% of the ballots and Maël Viala-Viaux with 13.09%.
