This Saturday, Toulouse largely won against Perpignan with a score of 41-9. In this meeting, Jack Willis once again wandered into the ground game. On the Usap side, Akato Fakatika was guilty of an action that was as dangerous as it was fraught with consequences. Here are the notes from the meeting.
The tops
Jack Willis
The weeks go by and look the same for Jack Willis… And it was certainly not the vacation granted after the match in Bayonne that was going to change the dynamic concerning him. If Stade Toulouse, despite numerous approximations, was ahead at half-time, it owed it in part to the performance of its captain. Throughout the match, the English flanker was once again diabolical in the ground game, causing several scratches or counter-rucks. Author of a strong attempt at the start of the match, he still conceded a penalty. Which we can easily excuse him, given his immense activity elsewhere. What a player!
Clément Vergé
Faced with the shortage in the second line on the Toulouse side, with the absences due to injury or selection of Meafou, Flament, Arnold and Brennan, Clément Vergé was given strong responsibilities. And he clearly responded. Certainly, some will criticize him for his indiscipline, an area in which he still needs to progress, since it has cost him, but what availability and ease in the game. The number 5 from the stadium has touched an incalculable number of balls and he has often managed to pass the arm to play behind him. He also scored a double, the first try supporting a run from Romain Ntamack, then the second with power. A new pledge for the future.
Pierre-Louis Barassi
Returning mid-week from Marcoussis, where he was with the French XV to prepare for the reception against Argentina, he proved that he was in great form. If he was a substitute at kick-off, he had to come on just before the break, to compensate for Pita Ahki's injury. And Barassi was decisive in the second half. It was following his clear crossing that the Toulouse residents scored their third try, that of the offensive bonus, through Paul Graou, served inside by the three-quarter center. Sharp and incisive, he was a permanent danger.
The flops
Antoine Aucagne
Author of an excellent start to the season, the Catalan flyhalf had a difficult encounter on the pitch at Ernest-Wallon. On goal, he let a penalty escape, which is really not his habit. Aucagne is to be credited with a 1/3 against the posts. The former Aurillac player was also guilty of Toulouse's second try, signed Clément Vergé. After an unsuccessful kick, he was deceived by the rebound when Romain Ntamack responded with his boot. In the end, the red and black opener recovered the leather, and Toulouse finished in the in-goal. Not in his mood, Aucagne was replaced shortly after the half-hour mark. A tactical replacement, a priori.
Perfectionism
We were playing the 25th minute when the right pillar of Usap collapsed… While his team had just recovered a penalty on the ground, Fakatika was guilty of an illegal clearance. A dangerous gesture, directly in the head-neck area of Léo Banos. Thomas Charabas, the central referee of the match, had no choice: red card. Usap played for more than fifty minutes fourteen against fifteen. Damage.
