After the Orechnik missile launch, the West questions the nuclear threshold

NARRATIVE – Russian President Vladimir Putin uses nuclear rhetoric to destabilize strategic balances.

Before launching its “Orechnik” intermediate-range hypersonic missile against Ukraine, Russia warned the United States. If Moscow wanted to scare the West and send it a strategic signal, there was no question of initiating an escalation. Because once launched, it is impossible to know whether the charge carried by the missile is conventional or nuclear. In too, the shooting was monitored with particular attention and resources. As an “endowed” power, France has warning capabilities capable of analyzing a strategic shot.

After this demonstration of force, the time has come in the West to analyze the consequences: a sign of weakness on the part of Vladimir Putin who, after three years, has not managed to bring Ukraine to its knees? Or serious warning of a risk of extension of the conflict after the United States authorized Ukraine to strike Russian territory with its ATACMS?
