The Caetano storm did not spare Essonne. Placed on orange vigilance, by Météo , until 2 p.m. this Friday, the department suffered lots of damage due to the snow which fell without stopping for a large part of the day on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Note that Essonne remains placed on yellow alert for snow and ice until 11 a.m. this Saturday.

Several injured in relative emergency

According to a report, drawn up at 6:30 a.m. this Friday by the department's firefighters, 22 interventions for accidents on public roads with a toll of 7 victims in relative emergency were recorded.

The firefighters also intervened 12 times for accidents involving people on public roads with a total of 13 victims in relative urgency.

The snow also caused many trees and electrical wires to fall on public roads. Please note that 61 interventions were recorded for this type of damage and that 650 homes Essonnians were deprived of electricity.

An increase in calls to firefighters

“Approximately 1,200 calls have been received by the Alert Processing Center (CTA) and the Departmental Fire and Rescue Operational Center (CODIS) since the start of the snow episode, an increase of 300 calls compared to the daily average,” specifies the Essonne Departmental Fire and Rescue Service.

As a reminder, the Prefecture of Essonne had suspended school transport throughout the department this Friday. Heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes were also prohibited from traveling on the RN118 and RN20 until 12 hours.
