Frédéric Lopez celebrates the fiftieth of his show A Sunday in the countryside on France 2, this Sunday, November 24. On this occasion, he received the singer Kendji Girac, the actor and comedian Dany Boon and the writer Virginie Grimaldi.
This Friday, he was the guest of Buzz TV from TV Mag / Le Figaro, Frédéric Lopez took the opportunity to return to this show but also talked about his career and this painful moment when he was fired from France 2, in 2003.
“There is a prescription”
“Professionally, I could tell how in 2003 I was fired from France 2, in full success. I do a show called Comme au cinéma, it has three audiences for old movie shows, except that at the time, I argued with an advisor to the president of France Télévisions. It's something I didn't say at the time, but today, there is a statute of limitations” he begins.
Before continuing: “The guy is going to spend years trying to get me fired because he wants to put a friend of his in my place. And one day he's going to get there, by dint of indoctrinating the president of France Télévisions. It's going quite gloomy because I ask for meetings, they give me no meetings, there are rumors and finally, they see me a few days before the end of June. While I had offers from other channels that I had refused because the bosses had told me: 'yes, yes, you can refuse' and they told me: 'you are fired', I asked them why, they tell me: 'that's how it is, we want to change.‘” A painful moment for Frédéric Lopez who told no one about it and who preferred to keep it to himself.
Frédéric Lopez: “a painful moment”
“It was terrible because when you are rejected, it echoes other times in your life where you were rejected but I consider that people have other problems in life so I didn't tell anyone about it. . It's painful because we keep things like that to ourselves, we ruminate. So I'm going to see the psychologist for the first time in my life.” he remembers, and that's how the show was born Meet in unknown landwhich will soon be hosted by Laury Thilleman.
The psychologist asks him what he likes to do in life, what makes him happy. “I say: 'travel', he says to me: 'well, do a travel show'. If I had said: I like flea markets, he would have said to me: do a flea market show'“, says Frédéric Lopez, laughing. “And I created Rendez-vous en terre stranger, the show which will become the favorite of the French and which will break records. A show that will give a lot of meaning. This is the famous phrase from Michel Bernier's grandmother: 'there is often a good thing in a bad thing..” concluded Frédéric Lopez.
