Material damage being repaired
Storm Caetano therefore caused major disruptions in telecom networks, affecting all users of Free, SFR, Orange and Bouygues, in several regions. These interruptions are mainly due to electrical failures affecting the power supply of relay antennas and fixed equipment.
These telecom outages are in addition to the power cuts already reported in many homes. After all, yesterday's episode left 270,000 customers without electricity on Thursday in western France, and only 70,000 were able to get power back this morning. The operators have assured that their teams remain mobilized despite the difficult conditions, and are calling on their customers to be patient while waiting for the lines to be restored.
However, some operators seem more affected than others. So Free indicated that twelve departments (including Calvados, Eure-et-Loir, Loire-Atlantique and Vendée) are partially affected. The problems mainly concern internet access, mobile telephony and TV. Two peaks in reporting were observed on November 21 on Downdetectorwith more than 100 reports, 71% linked to the internet.
For SFR, the operator also confirmed that it has several impacted sitesnotably reported by users on X. Unsurprisingly, the difficulties are similar to those of Free, with outages due to the absence of power supply.
