In many places in the Swiss plains it has been snowing for hours. The weather conditions make for snowy, slippery roads. Many passes are already closed, but the flakes are also causing problems for public transport operators.
The SBB is reporting various disruptions across the country. Due to the “weather-related rail condition”, there are currently cancellations, delays and interruptions on the following routes:
In addition to the disruptions listed here, there are delays in various locations, as news scouts on site report.
In Zurich, all bus operations in the city area and the agglomeration have been suspended, as stated on the City of Zurich website at 7 p.m. All tram lines run at irregular intervals. How long the disruption will last is unknown
In Bern, operations on the following lines are restricted due to heavy snowfall:
The operation of lines 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32, 160, 161, 162, 163, 165, 166, 167, 168, 331 and 332 can only be guaranteed irregularly until 7.30 p.m., as bernmobil writes on its website.
The main train station is also descending into chaos. A reader points out a problem. “The station is overcrowded,” he writes. Another speaks of a “huge chaos in Bern at the train station”.
In Basel, all public transport operations are currently disrupted. As the transport company writes on its website, there is irregular service throughout the Basel-City area.
There are also major problems with bus traffic in Thun, as a reader reports. They therefore had to leave the bus and walk to the train station. Likewise in Friborg, where a bus slipped off the road and hit a building.
“On the border”, the snowfall is also causing massive disruption to local and long-distance public transport: As “Le Parisien” writes, there are problems on the western TGV line. Some sections of the route are completely closed due to fallen trees, while elsewhere trains only run at a snail’s pace.
At Charles-de-Gaulle Airport, ten percent of flights were canceled. Various flights are also delayed at Roissy airport.
