Iowa City, IA – Snow showers and strong winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions in the Quad Cities region this afternoon.
The National Weather Service reports that snow showers will occur in three rounds starting around noon. The final round, expected during the evening commute, poses the highest risk of slick road conditions and low visibility. Gusty winds up to 45 mph may further reduce visibility, dropping it to one mile or less in some areas.
Motorists should anticipate slippery spots, particularly on bridges and overpasses. According to the National Weather Service, the greatest hazards will occur between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. as snow intensifies. Officials advise commuters to use caution and allow extra time for travel.
Weather experts stress the importance of being prepared for sudden changes in visibility and maintaining multiple ways to receive weather updates. Snow showers are expected to move southeast at 30-35 mph throughout the afternoon and evening.
Stay informed to avoid delays and ensure safe travel as conditions worsen.
