Rosé transformed into grenadine, a freezing swimming pool in the middle of November and Corsicans complicit in their photos: Virginie Hocq and Gérard Jugnot tell us behind the scenes of the filming of “We should have gone to Greece”.
If the film “We should have gone to Greece” breathes summer and vacations, the filming took place in much less clement temperatures. “We filmed in November”says Gérard Jugnot. “And there is a scene in the swimming pool… which is not heated! That’s it, that’s the principle of cinema.”
Despite the conditions, the actors remember this adventure with amusement. The villa, sumptuous and central to the plot, never ceases to surprise them. “She’s amazing.”confides Virginie Hocq. “But she is also the source of a lot of trouble in the film, particularly with building permit issues”.
One of Virginie Hocq’s challenges in the film was playing a woman who drowns in wine. But there was no question for the actress of drinking real rosé, instead, it was grenadine. “Luckily, the script gave me each time the level of drunkenness my character should have.” Gérard Jugnot, as a caring partner, did not hesitate to give his opinion: “From time to time, he would tell me ‘a little more’ or ‘a little less'”she confides.
A complicit and good-natured Corsica
If the action of the film takes place in Corsica, the island plays a much more important role than a simple setting. Gérard Jugnot underlines the active participation of the Corsicans in the project: “They wrote certain parts of the film and play with their own caricatures using the clichés. But always in a friendly and good-natured manner.” Virginie Hocq, for her part, jokes about her love for the island: “I even asked if I could change my name and call myself Virginie Hoche. I’m Corsican now!”
