The Christmas bonus will be paid in mid-December to more than 2 million precarious French households. Here's what you need to know about this boost introduced in 1998.

More than 2 million French people are impatiently awaiting the Christmas bonus. This payment to help precarious households spoil their loved ones will be made at the same amounts as last year: 152.95 euros minimum for a single person, while a couple with two children will receive around 320 euros. “It helps a little, it reimburses me for my gift expenses”testifies a mother of three children, who could receive 380 euros.

This bonus was born more than 25 years ago. In 1997, unemployed people demonstrated in the streets to demand assistance for the end-of-year holiday season. The following year, in 1998, the bonus was created. It is currently reserved for beneficiaries of the Active Solidarity Income (RSA), the Specific Solidarity Allowance or the Retirement Equivalent Allowance. The bonus is not taxable and should be paid by Caf into your account on December 14.
