Code yellow for slippery roads during the first winter offensive: snow showers and up to five centimeters of winter carpet

During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, temperatures in the south of the country will drop to around or below freezing point, which may cause ice spots to form on rain-soaked roads. “At the end of the night and on Wednesday morning, temperatures will drop around or below zero in Wallonia. This can cause ice spots to form on wet road sections,” writes the RMI. The yellow code for slippery conditions applies on Wednesday morning throughout Wallonia, except in the province of Walloon Brabant.

In the north and east of the country there are winter showers from the North Sea. This will be snow showers, especially in the High Fens, and five centimeters of white powder, and possibly even more, may remain on the Ardennes peaks. The snow may also temporarily remain in the lower regions during the heaviest showers, the RMI reports. Elsewhere it will remain largely dry with more clear spells. A strong westerly wind limits the mercury to a maximum of 5 degrees.

In the evening and at night there will be temporary winter showers in the north and east of the country. Later it will be dry everywhere with broad clear spells. It cools down sharply to temperatures around freezing point in most places in Flanders and down to -7 degrees in the Ardennes. Especially in the east of the country, pay attention to slippery spots on the road!

Thursday our country may be between depressions and in Flanders it is usually dry with sunny periods and fresh maximum temperatures around 3 degrees. There is a chance of winter precipitation everywhere in the country. There is a chance of ice spots in the east of the country.

After a freeze Fridaymorning Winter showers gradually change into rain showers, with maximum temperatures around 5 degrees. Snow falls on the Ardennes relief, which later becomes melting snow. A strong wind blows by the sea.

Saturday starts dry with a chance of freezing fog in the south of the country. Clouds will increase during the day with a chance of rain. By the end of the day temperatures rise to 7 degrees, before creeping up even further at night.

Sunday it will become noticeably milder with maximum temperatures of up to 15 (!) degrees, and there is a chance of rain in the west of the country.
