In a tense electoral context where Pastef dominates several regions of Senegal, Matam asserts itself as an impregnable bastion of the coalition Help Senegalled by Macky Sall. This exceptional performance is partly attributed to Farba Ngom, deputy mayor of Agnams and departmental coordinator of the APR, who was able to mobilize his influence to keep the region under the control of the coalition.
Results which confirm the anchoring of Macky Sall
In the Matam region, the Takku Wallu Senegal coalition won 82,654 votesleaving Pastef far behind with 26,243 votesfollowed by Jàmm Ak Jariñ with 21,646 votes. This gap is reflected in the three departments of the region:

The decisive role of Farba Ngom
In his Agnams polling station, Farba Ngom collected 250 voteslargely eclipsing the 13 votes of Pastef and the 7 voices by Jàmm Ak Jariñ. His influence goes beyond this simple score: as an emblematic figure of the region, he played a key role in mobilizing voters and maintaining the supremacy of Takku Wallu Senegal in the face of Pastef’s ambitions.
Matam, the historic bastion of Macky Sall
Despite the rise of Pastef in other regions, Matam remains firmly anchored in Macky Sall’s sphere of influence. This result underlines the loyalty of local voters to the Takku Wallu Senegal coalition, thanks to leaders like Farba Ngom and a deeply rooted political anchor.
A challenge for Pastef
Although Pastef has made notable inroads in other regions, his ambition to break the hegemony of Takku Wallu Senegal in Matam remains unfulfilled. With scores well below expectations, Ousmane Sonko’s party will have to review its strategy to hope to conquer this bastion in future elections.
