This is news which delights scientists, but which will perhaps discourage some from going swimming… A Great white shark has in fact been seen in the Mediterranean, off the coast of Port-Cros and the Porquerolles islands. The information, relayed by France 3 Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur was attested by specialists who were able to view an impressive video taken by a boater at the beginning of November.
A rare appearance in the Mediterranean
In the images, we indeed see a shark accompanied by its PiscesPisces pilots who nonchalantly approach a small boat! According to experts from the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, it is indeed a Great White Shark. Its size, estimated at four meters, suggests that it is not yet fully adult.
The Great White Shark, a protected species
Although rare, this presence in Mediterranean waters near the French coast is not a first. Already in 2022, a female was seen off the coast of the Camargue.
