The political future of Christine Engrand within the National Rally is darkening. the office of the RN group in the National Assembly decided, this Tuesday, November 19, to “suspend Ms. Christine Engrand for 6 months from her membership in the parliamentary group”. The press release issued by the far-right party specifies that the hearing of the person concerned by the group office delegation was delayed “by sick leave”.
Last September, Mediapart revealed that the elected official had used her office expenses allowance in 2022 and 2023 to pay for a monthly subscription to a dating site, funeral expenses or even pet boarding. The total sum was around €10,000 according to the investigation site.
Disputed costs reimbursed
This temporary exclusion takes into account the fact that “the non-regulatory expenses mentioned in recent weeks in the press have been reimbursed to the National Assembly”. Moreover, “the office will contact the National Investiture Commission of the National Rally so that it can rule unfavorably on a future investiture”. In the event of a positive response from the investiture commission to this proposal, Christine Engrand, who had beaten former Macronist minister Brigitte Bourguignon twice in 2022 and 2024, will no longer be able to run with the RN label in a future election.
