These snowfalls are expected to affect the region Thursday afternoon, particularly in the southern part. However, the flakes should not whiten floors in urban areas.
Will the capital be covered in a white coat this Thursday, November 21? If this is not yet certain, Météo France announces a possibility of having a few snowflakes in the region.
Indeed, from this Wednesday, November 20, “a descent of maritime polar air will refresh the atmosphere” (…) “while three successive disturbances cause turbulent weather during the period, with wind, sustained rain and sometimes snow all the way to the plains”, announces Météo France.
Contacted by BFMTV.com, François Gourand, Météo France forecaster, explains that the forecasts are still uncertain but snowfall is “probable” on Thursday in Ile-de-France, particularly in the southern part of the region. According to the Météo-France website, snow is notably forecast in Fontainebleau or in Nemours and Nangis on Thursday afternoon.
A fairly “early” episode, without being abnormal, given that meteorological winter begins on December 1st.
The episode is therefore “not so exceptional” in its precocity, although it does not happen “every year”, especially in a context of global warming, affirms François Gourand.
“This snow is linked to a small depression which will arrive from the Atlantic, it does not yet exist, and certain models put it at a distance of 150km, which may change for the regions concerned,” confides the forecaster.
2 to 5 cm in the north of the country
The meteorological institute also confides that in the coming days, Île-de-France could be affected by an episode of mixed rain and snow and not snow. On Thursday, temperatures should not exceed 5°C in the capital.
Météo France also specifies that snow showers could still occur in the plains over a large part of the northern half of the country,
“It will start in the morning in the northwest and Brittany-Normandy in the morning (…) it will arrive around midday in the Central region, and Île-de-France immediately after -noon (…) before a switch to Burgundy-Franche-Comté Even if in the fine chronology, there are uncertainties”, affirms François Gourand.
In the northern part of the country, 2 to 5 cm of snow are expected in the plains, indicates Météo France, without specifying the location more precisely.
