“Experiences from other projects, such as the inland canal mouth in Ruggell, show that revitalization creates new habitats for numerous animal and plant species. With a partial revitalization of the Rhine, we can improve the quality of the habitat on the Rhine as well as flood protection through new and more stable dams strengthen,” said Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni in her opening speech.
The affected communities and property owners were closely involved in the development of the preliminary project as members of the accompanying group. Mayor Tino Quaderer pointed out that the Eschen-Nendeln local council sees the revitalization as an opportunity for the community in terms of natural values, local recreation and flood protection. The chairman of the Eschen citizens' cooperative, Werner Bieberschulte, agreed and mentioned that no cultivated land would be lost through the revitalization of the citizens' cooperative.
