The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially revealed, on Monday, the list of five finalists named in each men’s category of the 2024 CAF Awards, including Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi who is competing for the title of best African player.
In addition to the right back of the Moroccan selection and the French club Paris Saint-Germain, among the contenders for the prestigious title of African Player of the Year are the Ivorian Simon Adingra (Brighton and Hove Albion), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea/Borussia Dortmund), Ademola Lookman (Nigeria/Atalanta) and Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns). In the “Young Player of the Year” category, Moroccan international Eliesse Ben Seghir, who plays for the French club AS Monaco, is in the running alongside Karim Konaté (Ivory Coast/Salzburg), Oumar Diakité (Ivory Coast/Reims), Yankuba Minteh (Gambia/Brighton and Hove Albion) and Lamine Camara (Senegal/AS Monaco).
As for the category of club of the year, the list of five finalists is marked by the presence of the Berkane Renaissance alongside the South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, Egyptian Al Ahly and Zamalek in addition to Esperance Sportive de Tunis. The prestigious CAF Awards 2024 ceremony will take place in Marrakech on December 16.
Other categories announced include Goalkeeper of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and National Team of the Year. The ceremony, which pays tribute to the excellence of African football, aims to recognize the exceptional performances achieved both in clubs and in national competitions, with the awarding of the prestigious titles of African Player of the Year in the men’s and women’s categories. .
A total of seven categories were confirmed by CAF in the men’s category, and the best five players, coaches and teams were selected in each of these categories. The CAF Awards 2024 cover the period from January 2024 to October 2024.
