The head coach of the Italian national team, Luciano Spalletti, commented on the defeat against France (1:3) in the latest round of the Nations League.
“We stepped onto the pitch and immediately conceded from a set piece. Then we couldn’t maintain our composure and wasted a lot of energy. When we scored and made it 2:1, it seemed like we could carry it through to the end, but then we conceded again from a set piece.
We didn’t play like we have in other matches. Our passing game was not clear enough, and we allowed France to pressure us.
Overall, the feedback we received from the group stage was positive. We saw some good moments. This defeat creates certain problems regarding confidence, but it should not extinguish the spirit we gained and demonstrated again. I feel sorry for the fans because there was a wonderful atmosphere, and we should have built on it,” Spalletti was quoted as saying by UEFA’s website.
It is worth noting that France and Italy have progressed to the Nations League playoff, where they will compete for victory in the tournament. The French finished in first place, while the Italians ranked second.
