“Gladiator”, “Signalements”, “The Killer Code”… What to see on from November 18 to 23, 2024?

Film. While “Gladiator II” has been in theaters since Wednesday, TMC has the good idea to rebroadcast the first part by Ridley Scott. The story of Roman general Maximus (Russell Crowe), unwavering support of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The latter's son, the envious Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), seizes power and orders the execution of Maximus, forced to flee… He is safe, but his family is decimated. Captured by a slave trader, Maximus becomes a gladiator and wants revenge.

A proper peplum, carried by spectacular and innovative special effects for the time, exceptional actors and the music of Hans Zimmer. The recipe for a very effective cocktail, regularly propelling the film onto the list of the 100 best cinematographic masterpieces in the world and which has received a shower of awards, including five Oscars.

Monday, November 18, at 9:35 p.m., on TMC.

    Note : 4/5

Documentary. 25 kg: this is the daily weight of our carbon footprint. On a road trip, Gil Alma will have to try to lighten his bag by choosing eco-friendly travel. In the adventure, he brings along his stage friend Benoît Joubert, less delighted to carry a backpack weighted with 25 kg of stones! In the Cathar country, in the Pyrenees and as far as the Spanish border, the two acolytes come across Alizé and his horses, which allows them to make a zero-pollution journey, or to use carpooling with Gabriel, a 100% organic winegrower who takes them to see its bottles which mature 250 m underground! They also help volunteers who work to clean the Garonne or a village aiming for self-sufficiency….

A sort of “Our Unknown Lands” eco-friendly version which, without being moralistic, offers, in a concrete and fun way, to understand the consequences of our travels. Humor as a bonus! A sequel?

    Monday November 18, at 9:05 p.m., on 5.

    Note : 4/5

TV movie. Véronique (Odile Vuillemin) and her husband are the parents of little Karine. Her sister-in-law Laurence (Cécile Bois) is very attentive to the little girl, whom she finds sad and dejected. From the moment of birth, the midwives reported the lack of bond between mother and baby. Laurence too but nothing helps. The child is certainly followed by social services but remains with her parents. One day, Laurence asks Karine to come and spend a vacation with her and she doesn't want to leave…

A true and heartbreaking story, that of Laurence Brunet-Jambu who faced the system alone. She will take ten years to win her case, then raising Karine as her own daughter… As a bonus, Bruno Solo, in the role of an overwhelmed ASE (Children's Social Assistance) department head, and, in la vie, sponsor of the association La Voix de l’enfant… Edifying.

Series. November 21, 1983, in the small English town of Narborough, 15-year-old Lynda did not return home. The next day, his lifeless body was discovered on a sports field. The young girl was raped. In charge of the case, Commissioner David Baker is convinced that the killer is not far away, but due to lack of evidence, the investigation bogs down to the great despair of the parents. At the nearby University of Leicester, scientist Alec Jeffreys is close to identifying DNA in paternity tests. Three years later, it's Dawn, 14, who doesn't come home for dinner. His body was found in the same place. A teenager is arrested. He confesses before retracting. But the cop and the scientist meet and believe that advances in DNA can help the police find the culprit…

An excellent British fiction, classic in form, but which recounts the revolution in genetic research on criminal investigations.

Thursday November 21, at 8:55 p.m., on Arte.

    Note : 3/5

Series. Do you remember Magnum, Hawaiian shirt and convertible coupe? Here is a West Indian version: Commander Saint-Barth, played by Florent Peyre. A change of scenery for those who arrive from mainland France but who grew up in Guadeloupe, in the family hotel. The police officer intends to rehabilitate his father, accused of murder and now on the run. The exuberant Saint-Barth must team up with George (Philypa Phoenix), who is as strict as he doesn't respect procedures. Upon his arrival, Saint-Barth settles into his childhood cabin, reunites with his old friends, including Avril, who has become a lawyer, and investigates the murder of Tina, a beachgoer found dead, drowned, at the top of a coconut tree…

Everything is too much in this new detective series, which is above all a comedy. But the white sand beaches, the transparent water and the (slightly) original investigations can seduce you!

Thursday November 21, at 9:10 p.m., on TF1.
