First deputy chairman of Russia’s Federation Council: Whole world showing great interest in COP29

Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova has met with Andrey Yatskin, first deputy chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, who arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the Parliamentary Meeting organized by the Parliament of Azerbaijan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union within the COP29, Report informs.

According to the Public Relations and Press Department of the Azerbaijani Parliament, the meeting participants discussed cooperation issues between the two countries, particularly between legislative bodies, and exchanged views on discussions held within COP29.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that climate change issues concern all states and reminded that Azerbaijan successfully chairs COP29. She emphasized productive discussions with all stakeholders within this important global event and noted that substantial results have already been achieved.

The speaker thanked the Russian side for participating in both COP29 and the Parliamentary Meeting. Andrey Yatskin, in turn, expressed congratulations on the successful organization of COP29, noting that the whole world shows great interest in this global event taking place in Baku.

During the conversation, the important role of parliaments in addressing climate change issues was emphasized. The Parliamentary Meeting has special significance in this regard, and strengthening parliamentary participation in the process, mutual discussions, and debates provide a good platform for developing a common approach. The meeting participants also expressed satisfaction with the high level of relations between our countries and noted that mutual visits of heads of state play an important role in expanding ties.

Relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries, as in other areas, demonstrate successful cooperation of the parliaments in several international parliamentary organizations.
