Thibau Nys will curse after the Flandriencross in Hamme. The European champion lost a possible win and a possible podium place in the final round. What’s more: Nys also fell in the last stretches of the field and stayed down for a while. Under his own power he was able to jump back on his bike and ride across the finish line. With a grimace and covered in mud, he was able to put on his spare clothes with his own hands, but the damage was not too bad.

“It was a very hard blow,” Thibau Nys said after taking a shower. “But it’s not too bad. It could have been worse.”

“My knee is a little stiff and my neck took a blow, but it’s nothing more than that.”
