On Sunday morning around a quarter to 11, it was found that the evacuation area around the Osnabrück Lokviertel, which was divided into three areas, had been “cleared”.
Now the emergency services who until recently had to get unruly or ignorant (or pretending to be ignorant) residents out of their apartments are withdrawing. Additional problems arose with people attempting to violate the cordons surrounding the evacuation area. Police spokesman Jannis Gervelmeyer During the evacuation, among other things, reported a cyclist who tried to bypass the police officers at a barrier – without success.
The bomb disposal had been announced long in advance. Those of the approximately 14,000 people affected who had not noticed anything were warned by sirens at 6:30 a.m. and also made aware of the impending evacuation by loudspeaker announcements.
Sirens, loudspeaker announcements and still not hearing anything?
On Möserstrasse, police officers had to escort a man who pretended not to understand what was going on out of his apartment with a small child. Two other apartments in the house were forced open because the residents had left them with the lights on, raising suspicions that there might still be people in the apartments.
In the house opposite, two other apartments were evacuated by firefighters – two hours after the 7 a.m. time when the evacuation area was supposed to be cleared.
Those refusing to evict now face a fine of at least 300 euros, which can be increased to up to 5,000 euros depending on the circumstances.
One thousand helpers in action in Osnabrück
Around 1,000 helpers from the police, fire brigade, THW, the various emergency services, the municipal utilities and the city of Osnabrück are on duty this Sunday, according to city spokespersons Simon Vonsteinto ensure security for a possible bomb explosion on the former freight yard site. Almost 500 residents of the evacuation area gathered in the evacuation center in the Schinkel comprehensive school until early noon. A total of seven suspected locations will be examined on Sunday afternoon.
If everything goes according to plan, residents will be able to return to their apartments in the early evening.
Deutsche Bahn, which has “closed” the main station, expects the measure to end around 7 p.m.
Marienhospital largely cleared
The Marienhospital (MHO) was largely evacuated. The shift schedules for the bedridden patients and the maternity ward were adjusted so that staff changes could take place before 10 a.m. The schedule called for an “actual” evacuation at 10 a.m., checked by drones among other things, three hours after the original evacuation time.
This status was actually achieved at around 10:45 a.m. – now the explosive ordnance clearers begin their work.
Our editorial team will report as soon as a new status arises.
