Antonello Venditti he lived a love life and a career full of emotions. The Roman artist has been in the field for more than fifty years and is now a pillar of local music. Success and fame, however, did not save the singer of Night Before Exams from dark and extremely trying periods. Like when he separated from his wife: “I wanted to commit suicide but my friend Lucio Dalla saved my life”, he said in an intense and emotion-filled interview with Corriere della Sera.
A special relationship was established by the Roman singer-songwriter with Dalla, who proved to be very empathetic towards him. Venditti also met Pino Daniele, Pooh and the great Fabrizio De André, with whom he established a relationship of mutual respect: “But then we really became friends, only that they left and I remained on the brink of the abyss. I was afraid of everything”, the Roman artist’s confidence.
Antonello Venditti shock: “At a certain point I thought about ending it”
Venditti indulges in very intimate and personal confessions. “I was afraid of myself and of not being loved. I thought about ending it by maybe crashing the car, but I was afraid of hurting others,” his words. In short, the words you don’t expect from Antonello Vendittiwho evidently – at least for a period of his life – was a tormented artist.
It’s difficult to be a father, with such an impressive career and a relationship that isn’t always easy with his ex-wife Simona Izzo. “But with Francesco we found ourselves on the same wavelength. A quantum physicist would say that it is possible”, assures the Capitoline artist who refers to a relationship based almost on telepathy. Today Antonello Venditti looks back at the past with great clarity, but without asking too many questions. On the other hand, if today he is the great artist that we all know, it is also thanks to the experiences he has lived first hand.
