Denis Holsteinborn February 6, 1927 in (Seine-Maritime), survivor of Auschwitz, died Saturday November 16, 2024 at the age of 97.

At the age of 15, she was arrested with her family. Separated from her parents in (Seine-Saint-Denis), Denise Holstein was deported at the end of July 1944 to Auschwitz then to Bergen-Belsenfrom where she was liberated on April 15, 1945 by the British army. When she left, she weighed only 35 kg, half of her weight a year earlier.

Testimonies and tributes

Denise Holstein has been telling her story since the 1990s, in schools, the media, and in two books. In 2019, the City of Rouen unveiled a plaque in his honor, near the building where his family lived before the war.

The mayor of Rouen Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol reacted on X (ex-Twitter): “ Denise Holstein was a great lady from Rouen. We are proud that a municipal hall bears his name, and that a commemorative plaque in Square Verdrel honors his memory. »
