Denis Holsteinborn February 6, 1927 in Rouen (Seine-Maritime), survivor of Auschwitz, died Saturday November 16, 2024 at the age of 97.

At the age of 15, she was arrested with her family. Separated from her parents in Drancy (Seine-Saint-Denis), Denise Holstein was deported at the end of July 1944 to Auschwitz then to Bergen-Belsenfrom where she was liberated on April 15, 1945 by the British army. When she left, she weighed only 35 kg, half of her weight a year earlier.

Testimonies and tributes

Denise Holstein has been telling her story since the 1990s, in schools, the media, and in two books. In 2019, the City of Rouen unveiled a plaque in his honor, near the building where his family lived before the war.

The mayor of Rouen Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol reacted on X (ex-Twitter): “ Denise Holstein was a great lady from Rouen. We are proud that a municipal hall bears his name, and that a commemorative plaque in Square Verdrel honors his memory. »
