“He was so shy and reserved”: Michel Denisot remembers the beginnings of Yann Barthès in the media

From intern to star of the small screen… As part of the promotion of his book “Very first time, they all started on Canal”, Michel Denisot was the guest of “On refait la télé”, Saturday November 16, on RTL . On the program: his incredible interview with Elton John, his relationship with Gérard Depardieu, or even a surprise from Jeanne Mas.

“He wished we weren’t there”

During the interview, journalist Eric Dussart asked the former presenter of “Grand Journal” on Canal +: “You knew him Yann Barthèsat the time when he was in the communications department in his early days?”. To answer him, he explained: “Of course, I saw Yann arriving in the morning, he wished we weren't there. He was so shy and reserved, so life is crazy. He was so shy and reserved that he would knock thinking we weren't there. If we were there, he would come in timidly and drop off his press review. And otherwise when we weren't there, he threw it in the office”.

At the RTL microphone, Eric Dussart responded: “So you were 1000 miles away at that moment from imagining that one day he would become the on-air star that he became?”. The 79-year-old man who in 2019 directed his first film “All Resemblance”, dedicated to behind the scenes of the television world, then responded in the affirmative, also returning to the example of Dominique Farrugia. “Then there are people, Farrugia tells me I think… At the beginning, I saw it happen, it was almost the same pattern. At first, he tinkered with the weather, things like that. And he, I thought very quickly that it would work well”.

Faced with Jade, who co-hosts the radio show, Michel Denisot clarified: “Sometimes, we feel that people are driven by this desire, by this job, that they love it and that they are ready to dedicate to it… For a minute, they spend the day there! This was the case for all those I mentioned who started with me and who later became animators, producers, etc., who made big careers”.
