The results that would give the title to Martín or Bagnaia

Jorge Martín did not convert his first match point this Saturday in Barcelona, ​​but he will have a second on Sunday and even if Pecco Bagnaia took five points from him by winning the sprint, the balance still tilts very clearly in favor of the Madrilenian.

With a 19-point lead and still 25 points at stake, Martín will be certain to be champion if he scores seven points or more, which will allow him to maintain at least one lead. In the event of a tie, the title would indeed return for the third consecutive year to Bagnaia, already assured of finishing the year with more victories than his opponent.

Martín will therefore be champion no matter what if he finishes in the top nine, which seems to be a formality since he has done so 16 times in 19 Grands Prix this year. He will also be titled if he finishes between tenth and 14th place and Bagnaia does not win, or if he does less well and his rival is not among the first two.

Bagnaia must therefore finish among the first two while hoping for a poor performance from Martín. It is unlikely but not impossible, since we have seen a scenario that would give him the title three times this year, when he won at Jerez and at the Sachsenring, two races marked by falls by Martín, and during a second place in the first race at Misano, when his competitor had paid for a strategic error by changing bikes, and took 15th place.
