Jon Jones was dominant in the UFC 309 main event. The G.O.A.T successfully defended his heavyweight title and pounded Stipe Miocic into retirement in the process.
After two-plus lopsided rounds, Jones got the finish in the third with a spinning backkick that led to the TKO win.
Take a look at the finish.
Jones earned one of three individual Performance of the Night.
After the fight, Miocic called it a career. The 42-year-old looked slow and miles past his prime against Jones. Miocic’s performance makes you wonder if he should have been in the Octagon with Jones on Saturday.
As it was, Miocic ended an epic career that will conclude with him being one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. In the co-main event, Charles Oliveira won a unanimous decision over Michael Chandler in their rematch. The fight was entertaining from start to finish, but the fifth round was one for the ages.
After Oliveira dominated the first four rounds, Chandler landed a huge right hand in the fifth, putting the Brazilian in peril. Chandler couldn’t get the finish as Oliveira recuperated and took Chandler’s back to set up a memorable moment.
Chandler showed off his power as he stood to his feet like a superhero and fell backward, driving his weight into his opponent.
Take a look at the moment; the MSG crowd went crazy.
This moment and the entire fifth round helped secure both men’s Fight of the Night bonus. It was the third FOTN bonus for Oliveira and Chandler.
Here is a look at all of the results from UFC 309. Every fighter who wins a bonus has a trophy emoji and a highlight of their win.
