Notre-Dame is preparing to reopen its doors on December 7 and 8. Everything must be perfect for the celebrations, right down to the outfits for the ceremonies, designed by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Report in from a company responsible for delivering stoles.

The Arte-Houssard workshop in Poilley (Manche), specialized in sacred clothing, is unique in France. Here, five seamstresses make cassocks, albs and chasubles. These days, the machines are running at full speed. In two days, they will dress the inaugural procession of Notre-Dame de Paris. “We made 160 diaconal stoles, and 102 stoles for the canons.”confides Brigitte Hamon, the director of the workshop.

The drawings are signed by the designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. He chose an off-white fabric, with a gold cross and multi-colored flashes and borders. The price and composition of the fabrics are secret. Each piece is decorated, sewn and ironed. For the workers, some of whom have worked here for 35 years, the order is recognition of their know-how. “It's a burst of light that I will keep all my life.” even assures one of them, Véronique Mignon. The stoles will constitute the new collection of the diocese of Paris.
