A rental car with four tourists rushes into a semi-trailer at the end of a traffic jam on the A9. The scenes must have been very stressful for the active first aiders.
Pegnitz – The serious accident occurred early on Friday afternoon (November 15th). This was preceded by a rear-end collision involving several vehicles on the A9 towards Nuremberg near the Pegnitz exit, with several people slightly injured.
Car drives into truck with almost no brakes – passenger dies immediately
Due to the accident, a backlog quickly formed. The 37-year-old driver of a rental car drove almost unbraked into this backlog – directly towards a semi-trailer. The driver apparently tried to swerve to the left. As a result, the right half of the car hit the left rear corner of the tractor-trailer.
A woman was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car. She was fatally injured by the impact and died at the scene of the accident. “A rescue measure was no longer appropriate here,” says Rainer Erfurt, spokesman for the Upper Franconia police headquarters, regarding the woman’s injuries.

However, two medical students immediately intervened and cared for the three survivors. The driver was only slightly injured. The two passengers in the back seat were seriously injured. Emergency services from the Pegnitz fire department, who were originally on their way to the previous accident, fortunately passed the Pegnitz exit and were able to be on site quickly and provide technical assistance.
First responders are looked after by the crisis intervention team
After the operation, the police and fire brigade praised the active efforts of the first responders. They were then looked after by a crisis intervention team. One of the seriously injured people was flown to the nearest hospital in a rescue helicopter.
High-quality rental car is an accident car – occupants from abroad are apparently on their way to vacation
According to Erfurt police spokesman, the vehicle involved in the accident was a high-quality small rental car. He was totally destroyed. The Bayreuth traffic police are conducting the investigation. “We are currently assuming that they are tourists. We have four people with different nationalities,” says Erfurt. Apparently they were on vacation.
The A9 towards Nuremberg has been completely closed from Bayreuth to Pegnitz since the early afternoon. The police advise people to avoid the region as much as possible.
