On the evening of November 15, 2024, you had to have your eyes glued to the sky to enjoy the last Supermoon of the year, that of the Beavers.
Friday November 15, 2024 corresponded to the last Supermoon of the year. Why is the phenomenon called a Supermoon? Quite simply, because the star has the particularity of being larger than usual but also brighter.
Bigger and brighter
We owe the term Supermoon to Richard Nolle. The event occurs when the star is at perigee, that is to say closest to its orbit (in this case the Earth). The moon will therefore be located at a distance of approximately 361,934 km kilometers and will appear much larger and brighter than normal.
At each Supermoon, across the world, eyes and lenses are fixed on this beauty that nature offers only very rarely, the opportunity to immortalize it. Non-exhaustive overview of the most beautiful images captured.
Why Super Beaver Moon?
This November Super Moon, known as the Beaver Moon, takes its name from Native American culture. Two explanations are put forward for the name: one pays homage to the animal because it is in November that the beavers build their dams and stock up on food to last through the winter.
The other explains this nickname is linked to the setting of beaver traps by hunters to recover their fur, which also takes place in November.

From Rodez, the moment was captured in the lens of Christophe Carbonnel where we see the Supermoon in the background of Rodez Cathedral. Gorgeous.

It takes place every two years. The next one is scheduled for November 26, 2026.
