The 7th round of the Coupe de France gave rise to three surprises on Friday evening, with the elimination of three Ligue 2 teams, including the leader, Paris FC, as well as Ajaccio and Rodez, against QRM (N1), Les Herbariums (N2) and Angoulême (N2).
The Coupe de France always has surprises in store! This was again the case on Friday evening as part of the 7th round, which marks the entry into the running of Ligue 2 clubs. Because three teams from the elite antechamber were eliminated by teams of a level lower. And the first feat took place in the first match. Fourth in Group B of National 2, the Herbiers club, unfortunate finalist in the competition in 2018 against PSG, hosted AC Ajaccio, currently 15th in L2.
And while the kick-off was delayed… by the presence of a hole in a net and the Corsicans first enforced the hierarchy by opening the score through Axel Bamba (0 -1, 34th), the Vendéens ended up coming back at the end of the match, helped by the expulsion of the Ajaccian scorer just a quarter of an hour from time. Shelton Guillaume first equalized with a nice shot (1-1, 90th), before giving his team the victory from the penalty spot (2-1, 90th+5).
QRM takes out Paris FC on a panenka
In Angoulême, 14th and relegated to Group A of National 2, the locals fought hard to defend their skin against Rodez, 12th in Ligue 2. They first led 2-0, thanks to Paul Venot (42nd) and Théo Chauvier (75th), before being scared at the end of the match, following the reduction of the gap signed by Ruthenois Tawfik Bentayeb (90th). But so they held on.
And the last qualifier of the day came from the capital and more precisely from a Charléty stadium which sounded very hollow and where the ambitious L2 leader, Paris FC, was knocked out on penalties by Quevilly Rouen Métropole (1- 1, 2-4 tab). Belkacem Dali-Amar opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour of play for the Norman club, 14th in National 1 and double finalist of the Coupe de France, but Nouha Dicko equalized for the Parisians (29th). If Ilan Kebbal then believed to give Paris FC the advantage, the two teams had to decide on penalties. Maxime Lopez and Jules Gaudin missed the first two attempts by the locals, and it was Yanis Dede-Lhomme who qualified QRM for the 8th round of a panenka, to nicely end this evening full of surprises.
