Friday evening's matches counting for the 5th day of the CAN 2025 qualifiers proved to have serious consequences for the Comoros and Ghana.

In group A, the Comoros won the “final” against Gambia (2-1) in Berkane in Morocco and made an appointment for the final phase, which will also take place in the Cherifian kingdom.

With their backs to the wall, Scorpions had nevertheless taken the lead in the 19th minute on a recovery at the far post from Abdoulie Sanyang following a cross from the inevitable Musa Barrow. But the Coelacanths did not doubt for long. On a counter initiated by ex-French U21 international Zaydou Youssoufwho celebrated his first cape, Rafiki Saïd concluded in style after inflicting a small bridge on an opponent (1-1, 26th).

While we were heading towards a draw which did the business of the Comoros without qualifying them, everything changed in the 90th minute when Faïz Selemani sent a perfect cross for the head of Myziane Maolida, who gave the Comorians their 2nd participation at the CAN after their historic journey to the round of 16 in 2022.

Ghana, on the other hand, will not see this 35th edition! On the decline in recent years and eliminated in the group stage of the last two editions, the Black Stars came up against Angolaalready qualified, in Luanda (1-1), thus confirming their failure. Jordan Ayew nevertheless scored the goal of the comeback with a superb free kick in the 18th minute.

The guardian Ghanaian Abdul Manaf Nurudeen then kept the hopes alive by repelling a penalty from Mbala Nzola. But a header from Zini, from a cross from Milson, in the 64th minute, confirmed the Angolan equalizer and the elimination of Otto Addo's men who will miss the CAN for the first time since 2004. The last post in this group F will be played on Monday in a remote duel between Sudan and Niger.
