Julián Alvarez, Nahuel and De Paul lose to Paraguay

In the early hours of Friday, the three Argentine Atlético Madrid players called up by Scaloni were in action against Paraguay in Asunción. The match ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Albiceleste, with all three Atlético players starting.

Nahuel Molina, Rodrigo De Paul and Julián Alvarez were in the starting lineup, although only De Paul played the entire match, in which he had a great opportunity to score his team’s second goal. Alvarez delivered a good pass to him on a counter-attack, but despite all the odds in his favor, De Paul sent the ball over the bar. As always, De Paul showed his commitment to the Argentine cause.

Julián Alvarez, meanwhile, did not have clear chances but was active on the pitch, making several runs into space. He was replaced in the 86th minute.

Nahuel Molina joined the bench in the 78th minute after making a few promising runs down the right flank in the first half. His performance declined thereafter until Gonzalo Montiel replaced him.

It was a setback for Argentina, who had initially taken the lead through Lautaro Martínez but were then surprised by a superb Sanabria back kick and an Alderete header shortly after half-time. Argentine players demanded the expulsion of the Getafe defender.

Despite the defeat, Argentina remains at the top of the World Cup qualifying table with 22 points, three more than Colombia, who have a game in hand. The next meeting for the three Atlético players and their teammates will take place on Wednesday morning against Peru in Buenos Aires.
