The national football coach, Chiquinho Conde, in a preview of today’s match against Mali, in the fifth round of Group I of the CAN-2025 qualifiers, said he was sensitive to what has been happening in the country, stressing that the team would do everything it could to achieve “something great” for Mozambique.
“All of us, the coaching staff and the players, are sensitive and aware of what has been happening in the country. It is for them that we will always fight to achieve something great. We want to bring joy and satisfaction to all those who in one way or another feel sad and disappointed with everything that is our experience. Therefore, we will do everything to minimise the suffering and bring joy to the people,” Conde said.
Also in the match preview, midfielder Ricardo Guimarães said that the team was confident of a positive result.
“Tomorrow we will have an important game, just like all the others. We are confident and prepared. Mali defends well and so we will be able to have more of the ball in the attacking midfield and be able to control the game more. We also know that they have weaknesses in set pieces, which we believe we can take advantage of,” Guima said.
Mozambique and Mali lead Group I with 8 points, four more than Guinea-Bissau, which is in third place. Eswatini, in last place, has one point.
In a press conference yesterday afternoon in Maputo, the Mambas coach spoke about the political instability in the country, guaranteeing that “he and the entire structure of the national team are not indifferent” to the wave of demonstrations repudiating the election results. “It is also for them that we play, it is for them that we fight to achieve something great and to give joy and satisfaction to all those who feel sad and disappointed,” he said.
