The American Taylor Fritz lost the first set against the Australian Alex De Minaur at the ATP Finals (score 7-5), thus guaranteeing passage to the semi-finals – by virtue of the current ranking – for Jannik Sinner
Taylor Fritz is still approaching the semifinals of the ATP Finals. At the end of a hard-fought match that lasted two hours and eight minutes (the longest so far at the ‘tournament of masters’), the American defeated the Australian Alex De Minaur in three sets.
The final score was 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. Now Fritz will have to wait for the result of the Sinner-Medvedev match to know his fate (if the Russian wins in straight sets he is eliminated). The match was played on the edge of balance, broken only by short empty passes from the two contenders. The Australian focused on variations in pace, the American tried to impose his pace from the baseline.
In the first set De Minaur took advantage of some errors from his opponent at 5-5 to break serve and close 7-5. Fritz did the same in the second set, winning the decisive game at 5-4. Finally, in the third set, the American broke in the fourth game and maintained the lead until the final 6-3
