Three new selections have validated their ticket for CAN 2025 which will take place in Morocco. Gabon, Uganda and South Africa qualified this Thursday, November 14.
Thirteen teams have now secured their place for CAN 2025. Indeed, Gabon, Uganda and South Africa join Morocco, host country, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Algeria, DR Congo, Senegal, Egypt, Angola, Equatorial Guinea and Ivory Coast.
Gabon took advantage of Lesotho’s victory (1-0) against Central Africa, during the fifth day of qualifying in Group B. Neo Mokhachane scored the decisive goal in the 51st minute, giving Lesotho its first victory in these qualifications.
This result allows Lesotho to move to third place with 4 points and guarantees Gabon, second with 7 points, qualification. Gabon will play against Morocco this Friday, November 15. The Moroccan selection will therefore have no pressure during this meeting, in addition to being at the top of the group with 12 points and host of the competition.
Even in the event of a tie on points between Gabon and Lesotho at the end of qualifying, Gabon would qualify, thanks to an advantage in direct confrontations (a victory and a draw against Lesotho).
For its part, South Africa qualified after Congo Brazzaville’s 3-2 defeat against Sudan. Even if Bafana lose their match against Cranes and South Sudan, they will still be in Morocco as second in Group K. Bafana have eight points after two wins and two draws.
Uganda leads the group with 10 points, after three wins and a draw. Congo, for its part, has four points with one match remaining in its campaign.
Despite this early qualification, South Africa should fight for maximum points. They will face Uganda on Friday at the Mandela National Stadium and South Sudan at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday.
