An American woman won $100,000 in a scratch card game when she had just been diagnosed with very aggressive brain cancer and her days were numbered.

Originally from Minnesota, an American woman won $100,000 thanks to a scratch card game, just after being hospitalized for a serious illness, reported CBS News on Monday November 11, 2024. After noticing difficulty playing, Debbie Bury sought medical attention. The diagnosis, made a few weeks ago, revealed three brain tumors. “All I see is black, all I see is death”would have confided to him his oncologist.

She wins the jackpot during her hospitalization

During her hospitalization, Debbie received visits from many friends, one of whom brought her a scratch lottery ticket, in the colors of the Vikings, her favorite American football team. To his great surprise, this ticket won him the jackpot. “I cried, I screamed, it was incredible”said her daughter.

Alerted by her cries, the hospital staff first thought it was an emergency, before sharing the joy of the patient and her family. “Good news is rare in oncology”the care manager told WCCO media.

Upon receiving her check for $100,000, Debbie Bury expressed new hope for the future: “I feel like life is finally going to be good.” This renewed optimism is reinforced by a recent successful operation, which could give him several years of additional life. “I will live to be 80”declares this great-grandmother.
