At that time the Moon will be full and bright. As it will be fully illuminated by sunlight, we will be able to see it in its entirety. But why is it called the Beaver Full Moon?

The origin of the Beaver full moon

According to an old Native American tradition, all full moons have names. To remember this, the Old Farmers’ Almanac lists all the nicknames given by Native Americans to full moons, even before the colonization of America. According to Actu, this document was then taken up by NASA to perpetuate the tradition.

Full moons are named according to the events that take place during the month they appear. For example, the January full moon is that of the wolf because it is at this time of year that these animals are first heard. In June, we speak of the strawberry full moon, because that is when these fruits should be harvested. In November, the Beaver Full Moon appears as this is the time of year when beavers begin to hibernate.

“It is at this time of year that beavers begin to shelter in their lodges, having built up sufficient food reserves for the long winter that awaits them. At the time of the fur trade in North America, it was also the season when beavers were trapped for their thick, winter-ready skins,” reports the Almanac, cited by Maxisciences.

That evening, the Moon will be bigger and brighter in the sky. To observe this phenomenon, it is advisable to look at the Moon at sunset, when it is close to the horizon. This will give it a beautiful orange color. A show not to be missed.
