Around 3:45 p.m., a motorist traveling in the direction of Escatalens on the Castelsarrasin road, for reasons that remain unclear, mowed down a woman who was cycling with her husband.
The victim, who was behind her husband, was allegedly hit from behind by the motorist. The impact was extremely violent, leaving the septuagenarian unconscious and in cardiac arrest.
At the scene of the tragedy, firefighters from the Montech rescue center and emergency workers from the SMUR (Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Structure) medical team in Montauban attempted to provide a cardiorespiratory massage to the septuagenarian. In vain, the emergency doctor could only note his death.
According to our information, the victim is from Castelsarrasin. Her 74-year-old husband, in a state of shock but unharmed, was taken care of by emergency services. The latter waited for the funeral directors to take charge of his wife's body before a relative came to collect it on site.
The driver, aged 45 and from Montbeton, was examined by firefighters before being picked up by a relative.
The gendarmes of the community of brigades (COB) of Montech, with the reinforcement of a patrol of the PMO (motorized platoon) of Montauban, secured the departmental road during the emergency intervention. The military subsequently carried out their findings to determine the circumstances of this fatal accident. The motorist's vehicle was immobilized.
