Turbulence zone at Denpasar airport in Bali. This Wednesday, November 13, several flights to or from Bali were canceled due to the eruption of the Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano located on the island of Flores. On Tuesday, a 9 km high column of ash and smoke was visible above the Indonesian island.
“Due to volcanic ash caused by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi in Indonesia, it is currently unsafe to operate flights to and from Bali,” Australian company Jetstar said on Wednesday. And for good reason, the ashes emitted by the eruption could damage the engines and scratch the cockpit windshield, making it impossible to see through it.
As a result, Australian airlines Qantas, Virgin Australia and Jetstar, as well as Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and Indigo (Malaysia), Cathay Pacific (Hong Jong), Scoot (Singapore) and Indigo (India) have decided to cancel several or all of their flights.
