The mayor of Quito, Pabel Muñoz, announced that this technical decision will allow the supply of drinking water service throughout the city during the day.
In some sectors of the center and south of the city that are supplied by the Pita – Puengasí system, the service will be suspended from 5:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. the next day (plus the time for filling distribution pipes).
In the Integrated Papallacta System, night operations will be carried out to maintain the operational levels of the reservoirs that supply the drinking water treatment plants of Bellavista (north of the city) and Paluguillo (eastern parishes), where flows will be reduced at night. , between 10:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. in the morning. This measure will be practically imperceptible for users of this system.
The mayor insisted on his call for citizen collaboration to face this water crisis, since if the drought continues for a longer period and excess consumption of drinking water persists, greater impact measures would have to be applied to ensure supply.
On the other hand, the energy crisis facing the country also affects the supply of drinking water in the high areas that are supplied by pumping systems, which impacts 7% of the DMQ population during the recovery of the service.
To reduce citizen unrest, EPMAPS informs in a timely manner about the suspensions of the drinking water service. In addition, energy generators are being acquired for an approximate value of USD 2.2 million, as well as provision through tankers, mobile reserve tanks, socializations with the community and attention through their official channels.
