Podcast: Mavericks stumble in clutch again, lose 120-117 to Warriors

The Dallas Mavericks lost another heartbreaker, this time a 120-117 result to the Golden State Warriors. Dallas has now lost three in a row to fall under .500 for the first time this season at 5-6. Josh and Kirk talk about this until Kirk’s internet dies and we’re joined by friend of the show Jason Gallagher!

This was a maddening game to talk about, as Steph Curry lit up the Mavericks for 37 points and the Dallas offense died in the clutch yet again. It spoiled a terrific Luka Doncic effort, as he finished with 31 points.

Josh and Kirk initially talk about what went wrong, mainly the offensive rebounding and turnovers. The Warriors had 18 offensive rebounds. That’s a lot! From there Kirk’s internet dies and Josh tries to filibuster about the Mavericks weird defense, which allowed 54 points in the paint to the Warriors and allowed the Warriors to make 14 threes. Josh argues that injuries to PJ Washington and Maxi Kleber make it hard for Dallas to defend like it did in the second half of last season, and also the fact that games are officiated tighter than they were isn’t helping matters. When Jason joins the show, the two talk through theories on why the season doesn’t feel like a disappointment yet, what’s going on with Luka’s joy, and reassuring everyone now is not the time to panic.
