Since this year, many households – eligible for the energy check – will have to go through a digital counter to request a financial boost. Who will be affected?
Perhaps many French people have forgotten its existence: the energy check is still in force today, but is no longer distributed automatically to all eligible people… to the great dismay of several associations, estimating that there will be countless omissions in the country.
In 2023, only 3% of applicants who visited the platform managed to receive their energy check. The fault is not only a “lack of communication” on the part of public authorities on this subject, major difficulties in accessing the government's dedicated platform according to several associations, but also because of the removal of the tax housing because the tax made it possible to determine the composition of households.

The file of households currently eligible for the energy check is no longer up to date: several thousand potential beneficiaries therefore have every interest in coming forward to obtain the precious sesame. La Dépêche du Midi provides some advice in this regard.
Who is eligible for this assistance?
In practice, 20% of the lowest-income French households received this financial assistance by mail. Some 5.6 million households were eligible for this financial boost which allows them to pay heating bills (electricity, gas, fuel oil, etc.). This was without taking into account the obvious need for cash in the State coffers… which therefore decided this year to apply new eligibility criteria for the energy check.

Several pieces of information are therefore requested from you:
- your cell phone number
- a tax notice on 2022 income declared in 2023
- an identity document in digital format
- an invoice or energy contract certificate less than three months old.
This financial assistance is therefore now based on the reference tax income of the tax rent as well as on the number of the electricity delivery point of the accommodation. These are two pieces of information that you will need to provide.
Who will have to make an online request?
Not all energy check beneficiaries are required to contact the online counter: only new energy check beneficiaries must request it on the dedicated platform to receive the precious ticket in their mailbox. For households who have already received their check in the past, it is automatically sent to their mailbox (if they are still eligible).

Until when can I request my check?
In practice, for the year 2024, a first wave of sending energy checks was organized between April and May. A catch-up period was initiated last July: it runs until December 31. The use of the check must be done by March 31, 2025. This assistance allows you to pay between 48 and 277 euros of energy bill.
