We announced it to you a few days ago, the coolness is setting in in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The tramontana causes a sudden drop in temperatures this week. But while the sun had returned over the weekend, a new episode of rain is expected by Weather Francewhich also announces snow at altitudethis Wednesday, November 13.
No heavy rain in the forecast
We reassure you right away: No, the Pyrénées-Orientales will not be affected by torrential rainsin the next few hours. If the department could fear a major episode, like those which recently affected Spain, the latest forecasts are ultimately more measured.
“Indeed, the cold drop which will slide from Germany to Spain will circulate too quickly to allow a real establishment of a humid and lasting eastern sector flow”, confirms for his part Weather Languedoc Roussillon.
“Instead, we will be entitled to cold, light to moderate rainsome very temporary strong intensities on the coast on Wednesday over the whole of the Pyrénées-Orientales and a southern and eastern part of Aude”, details the specialized page.
Beneficial rain and snow in the mountains
From the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, the first drops will reach Perpignan, the Roussillon plain and the entire Catalan country. Precipitation will continue until midday. Concerning the accumulations, “nothing very significant, between 5-15 millimeters in the Pyrénées-Orientales and Aude (Corbières/Littoral), locally 25 millimeters near the Catalan seaside”, summarize the meteorologists.
“This type of rain is excellent news for our soils (fine, regular rain),” concludes Weather Languedoc Roussillonwhich also confirms the arrival of snow in the mountains. Snowflakes have already invited themselves in the ski resorts of the Pyrénées-Orientaleslast night, like in Font-Romeu Pyrénées 2000 (photo) or here in Porté-Puymorens:
A few more centimeters are expected. The rain-snow limit will drop to 1200 meters overnight, before going back up to between 1600m and 2000m altitude during the day. Good news for the Catalan ski areas which, for some, plan to open at the end of November.
