An emergency doctor at the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital (Val-de-Marne) was attacked by the son of a patient who considered the time taken to treat his father too long. A situation which does not surprise the unions, who are warning about the situation in emergencies.
This is a new episode of violence against caregivers against a backdrop of dysfunctions at the public hospital, particularly in the emergency services. Thursday, a man attacked an emergency doctor at the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital (Val-de-Marne), judging the time taken to treat his father too long.
The man was quickly arrested and placed in police custody for intentional violence committed against a doctor. He is prohibited from coming to the hospital while awaiting his trial. The AP-HP filed a complaint.
It was around 10 p.m. on November 7 when a man accompanying his father, an octogenarian in the emergency room of the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital, hit a caregiver: “There was annoyance from the family saying that the care was poorly done and this man attacked my doctor colleague”, Olivier Bruley, caregiver and FO union delegate, tells RMC.
Up to 7 hours of waiting
An attack which does not surprise the trade unionist, while daily life in the emergency room is tense: “We do not have all the emergency doctors for the service to run properly with staggering waiting times, sometimes up to 6-7 hours waiting. There is annoyance, we would like it to go faster but it's not easy.
Today, this service records 200 visits per day, sometimes 250. Far too many to manage properly: “As a result, the corridors are piled up with patients and it's unmanageable. This is what we call mistreatment. “.
A situation that affects the teams: this union must receive several caregivers today to take stock of the situation. The attacked doctor has returned to work but remains very shocked.
